Fayetteville, NC Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Sec. 16-300, "Places in Which Parking Prohibited," bars stopping, standing, or parking except when needed to avoid a traffic conflict or by a police officer's direction, in eleven named locations: on a sidewalk, within an intersection, on a crosswalk, within 30 feet of a flashing beacon or stop sign, within 50 feet of a railroad underpass or overhead bridge approach, within 50 feet of a grade crossing (with a narrow exception for pre-existing structures that don't block sightlines), alongside a street excavation that would obstruct traffic, on a bridge or elevated structure, within 15 feet of a building entrance like a hotel or hospital, on the roadway side of an already-parked vehicle (double parking), and within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

Sec. 16-302 requires that where the street isn't otherwise marked, vehicles park parallel and no more than 12 inches from the curb. Sec. 16-304 requires parking with the right side to the curb in the business district, except that on one-way streets a vehicle must stop headed in the direction of travel, which is Fayetteville's operative "no wrong-way parking" rule. Sec. 16-294 separately bars standing any vehicle so as to interrupt the passage of public conveyances or other vehicles. All of these sections were re-adopted by Ord. No. S2019-056 on November 25, 2019, replacing the prior 1961 code numbering, and each cross-references the streets and sidewalks provisions of Chapter 24.
