Little Elm has no specific EV charging ordinance. Level 2 charger installation requires a building permit. HOAs cannot block EV chargers under TX Property Code 202.023.
The Town of Little Elm does not have a standalone EV charging ordinance. Residential Level 2 (240-volt) charging station installation is treated as standard electrical work and requires a building permit from the Building Safety Division at (972) 377-5556. A licensed electrician should perform the installation, and the work must pass electrical inspection. Level 1 charging (standard 120-volt outlet) does not require a permit. Texas state law does not currently mandate EV-ready wiring or dedicated circuits in new residential construction, though some builders in Little Elms newer developments include pre-wired EV circuits as an upgrade option. Public Level 2 and DC fast charging stations are available at select commercial locations in the DFW metroplex area. Extension cords running across sidewalks or public rights-of-way for vehicle charging are prohibited as they create trip hazards. HOAs generally cannot prohibit EV charging station installation under Texas Property Code Section 202.023 which protects an owners right to install EV charging equipment.
Unpermitted electrical work: code enforcement citation. Extension cord across public way: safety violation.
