Cranston, RI Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 10.32.010 of the Cranston Code of Ordinances does not set a general loading zone rule. It is a list, and each line of the list creates a specific zone at a specific place. Chapter 10.32 maps dozens of them.

Every entry follows the same pattern, and reading it tells a driver exactly where the zone is. The Auburn Street entry shows how. The zone is on the south side of Auburn Street. It begins at a point 58 feet westerly of Rolfe Street and continues westerly for a distance of 65 feet. It is in effect 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. So the zone is a 65 foot stretch of curb that starts 58 feet from Rolfe Street, and it operates only during those weekday hours.

The Wellington Avenue entry uses the same method with different figures. That zone is on the east side, from a point 352 feet southerly of Clarence Street, southerly for a distance of 42 feet, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weekdays. At 42 feet it is shorter than the 65 foot Auburn Street zone, it sits much farther from its cross street, and it opens earlier in the morning.

Hours are not uniform across Cranston. George Street's south side runs 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and some zones run 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. Because the ordinance sets the window location by location, the hours on Auburn Street say nothing about the hours on George Street or Wellington Avenue. The posted sign at each zone is the place to confirm them.

The measured boundaries matter as much as the hours. Curb outside the 65 feet on Auburn Street or the 42 feet on Wellington Avenue is outside the designated zone, and each designation is tied to its own listed hours and days.
