Chino does not impose a blanket citywide overnight street-parking ban. Overnight parking is generally permitted on residential streets, subject to (1) the California Vehicle Code §22651(k) 72-consecutive-hour limit, (2) street-sweeping side-of-street restrictions, (3) Chino Municipal Code Chapter 10.30 commercial-vehicle prohibitions (Ord. 2021-005), and (4) any posted signs in specific zones (school zones, downtown, permit districts).
Unlike many neighboring Inland Empire cities (e.g., Ontario, which requires overnight parking permits in some areas), the City of Chino does not have a general citywide overnight parking ban codified in Title 10. Residents and guests can legally park overnight on most public residential streets provided they comply with the four overlay restrictions: (1) The 72-consecutive-hour limit under California Vehicle Code §22651(k) means a vehicle cannot remain in the same on-street spot continuously day-and-night for three days — it must be moved a meaningful distance. (2) Street-sweeping mornings require the swept side of the street to be cleared (odd/even rotation per City of Chino schedule). (3) Commercial vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers cannot park overnight under CMC Chapter 10.30 (amended by Ordinance 2021-005) — the 3-hour active-loading exception expires at 6 hours and the vehicle is deemed abandoned. (4) Some downtown blocks, school zones, and posted-permit residential areas restrict overnight parking via posted signage. RVs, boats, and trailers parked on residential driveways are capped at 72 hours under CMC §20.10.100; on-street overnight RV parking is governed by the same 72-hour CVC §22651(k) authority.
Overnight ticket under CVC §22651(k) (72-hour overtime) or local sweeping/sign violation. Commercial vehicles: citation under CMC Chapter 10.30; 6+ hours = abandoned (subject to tow).
