Lane County prohibits camping and abandoned vehicles within any public road right-of-way. Under state law a vehicle left standing on a public way for more than 24 hours without authorization may be taken into custody and towed. Overnight sleeping in a vehicle in the right-of-way is not permitted.
The county's road right-of-way rules bar camping and abandoned vehicles outright. Under ORS 819.110, an authority may take a vehicle into custody after notice when it has been parked or left standing on a public way for more than 24 hours without authorization. ORS 819.120 allows immediate towing of a vehicle left standing unattended on a road or right-of-way when it is a hazard. There is no general county-wide overnight ban on private lots, but long-term storage of an inoperable or unregistered vehicle can become a nuisance under LC 9.057.582.
Vehicles left over 24 hours on a public way may be towed under ORS 819.110; hazards may be towed immediately under ORS 819.120. Fines and abatement costs apply.
