Galt has no blanket overnight parking ban on residential streets. Vehicles may park curbside overnight provided they are moved every 72 hours under CVC 22651(k) and do not block driveways, hydrants, or posted sweeping zones.
Unlike some Sacramento region cities, Galt does not impose a citywide prohibition on overnight parking in residential neighborhoods. Residents with more vehicles than driveway capacity may legally park on the street overnight. The primary constraints are the 72-hour consecutive parking rule under CVC 22651(k), street sweeping schedules with posted temporary restrictions, and the standard prohibitions on blocking hydrants (15-foot clearance), driveways, crosswalks, and bus stops. Some downtown blocks carry daytime 2-hour limits but release at 5 p.m., allowing overnight parking. Certain city-owned lots near Civic Center and the Amtrak rail corridor restrict overnight parking by posted signage to deter long-term vehicle storage and RV camping. Vehicle dwelling and sleeping in cars on public streets is discouraged and may trigger welfare check response, but Galt has not adopted a specific car camping ordinance. Homeless outreach is coordinated with Sacramento County.
Overnight violations in posted no-parking lots result in citation and potential tow. Street-parked vehicles in violation of the 72-hour rule will be towed at owner expense.
