There is no blanket overnight ban on passenger cars, but a vehicle may sit on a residential street only up to nine continuous hours. Motor homes, house trailers and heavy commercial vehicles may not stay parked on subdivision streets in the A1–A4 districts for 72 hours or more.
Baton Rouge does not impose a simple 'no overnight parking' rule for ordinary cars, but the nine-hour residential-street limit effectively restricts long unattended stays. Recreational and large vehicles are handled separately: no motor home, house trailer, or commercial vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 10,000 pounds or more may be parked on a subdivision street in the A1, A2, A2.5, A3 and A4 districts for 72 hours or more. Abandoned or inoperative vehicles left on private property are addressed under the nuisance code (Title 12, Ch. 7). Check any HOA rules, which frequently restrict overnight RV and trailer parking further.
Vehicles exceeding the time limits may be tagged, cited or towed by police/Parking Control; junked or abandoned vehicles are abated as nuisances under Title 12.
