Pleasanton has no citywide overnight parking ban. Vehicles may park overnight on most streets, subject to the 72-hour movement rule, posted limits, colored-curb restrictions, and residential permit zones. Permit-zone signs may restrict overnight parking in specific neighborhoods.
Pleasanton's Municipal Code does not impose a general prohibition on parking overnight on city streets. Instead, overnight parking is governed by the same Chapter 11.36 rules that apply at any hour. The most significant constraint is Section 11.36.140, which requires that a vehicle parked in one space for 72 or more consecutive hours be moved at least one block or 250 lineal feet; a vehicle that simply sits day and night will eventually run afoul of this rule and may be removed under Chapter 11.40. Posted time-limited zones under Section 11.36.210 generally operate during daytime hours (commonly 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.), so they usually do not restrict overnight parking, though the four-hour zone can extend to 10:00 p.m. Colored curbs apply at all times: a red curb prohibits stopping or parking day or night. In neighborhoods designated as residential permit parking zones under Chapter 11.38, posted signs control which hours require a permit, and some zones can include nighttime hours. Large or recreational vehicles parked overnight remain subject to posted height restrictions (over five feet, Section 11.36.200) and the residential storage limits in the zoning code. Drivers should always read posted signs and curb colors before leaving a vehicle overnight.
Overnight parking itself is not cited, but related violations are: exceeding 72 hours leads to citation and possible tow under Chapter 11.40; parking against a red curb is $100; permit-zone overstays without a permit draw the posted time-zone fine ($50 and up).
