Pleasanton allows general street parking but enforces a 72-hour movement rule, posted time-limited zones (20-minute, 2-hour, 3-hour, 4-hour), curb-color restrictions, and residential permit zones. The city traffic engineer sets and signs these limits under Chapter 11.36.
Street parking in Pleasanton is governed by Chapter 11.36 (Stopping, Standing and Parking) of the Municipal Code. There is no blanket time limit on most residential streets, but a vehicle left in one space for 72 or more consecutive hours violates Section 11.36.140 and must be moved at least one block or 250 lineal feet, whichever is greater. The city traffic engineer has authority to establish posted limited-parking zones; the Master Fee Schedule lists penalties for a Twenty-Minute Zone, Two-Hour Zone, Three-Hour Zone, and Four-Hour Zone under Section 11.36.210, generally in effect between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. except Sundays and holidays (the four-hour zone runs 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.). Colored curbs further restrict where you may stop: red means no stopping or parking, while green, yellow, and white curbs carry short loading or time limits. Several neighborhoods are designated residential permit parking zones under Chapter 11.38, where time-limited signs apply unless a valid permit is displayed. The traffic engineer may also post no-parking zones (Section 11.36.090) and restrictions on vehicles over five feet tall. Permits and zone information are handled by the Pleasanton Police Department and Traffic Engineering Division.
Posted time-zone overstays draw fines ranging from $50 (20-minute or 2-hour zone) up to $56 (four-hour zone) per the Master Fee Schedule. No-parking and no-stopping zone violations are $50. A vehicle left over 72 hours is subject to citation and removal under Chapter 11.40.
