Houston County, GA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Sec. 62-54, Overnight stay, part of Article III (Truck Traffic and Truck Parking) added by amendment on July 5, 2023, states that no truck or tractor-trailer shall enter, travel or park on a street in a residential subdivision, or park on a right-of-way in the county, for the purpose of an overnight stay by the driver or operator. 'Truck' is defined in Sec. 62-51 as any vehicle used for hauling with an overall length over 30 feet and more than six wheels, including tractors pulling trailers whether loaded or unloaded, and any vehicle exceeding the state's weight limit for county roads.

The rule works alongside Sec. 62-53's daytime ban on truck travel through residential subdivisions (short daylight deliveries excepted) and Sec. 62-52's ban on through-truck travel on specific roads listed in Sec. 62-56. The board of commissioners adopted the article, per Sec. 62-50, to promote public health, safety and welfare by keeping trucks and tractor-trailers from parking overnight in residential areas and on county rights-of-way, and to restrict truck traffic on certain designated roads.
