Woodbury limits large and heavy vehicles in residential zones through Sec. 24-245, which bars box and flatbed trucks over eight feet tall, vehicles over 26,000 pounds GVWR, CDL-required vehicles, and large trailers unless they are actively in use. Recreational equipment over 24 feet is also restricted.
Woodbury controls oversized vehicles mainly through two parts of its zoning code. Sec. 24-245 prohibits storing or parking heavy and large commercial vehicles in residential zoning districts unless they are actively loading, unloading, or rendering a service. The defined oversized categories include box trucks and flatbed trucks in excess of eight feet in height, vehicles exceeding a manufacturer's GVWR of 26,000 pounds, vehicles requiring a commercial driver's license to operate, and trailers over 3,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (with limited recreational and agricultural exceptions). Separately, Sec. 24-255 limits recreational equipment such as large RVs and trailers to one piece per dwelling not exceeding 24 feet in length, stored on concrete or blacktop with the required setbacks. Together these provisions keep oversized trucks, large trailers, and very long RVs from being parked long-term in neighborhoods. On public streets, Woodbury's winter parking Ordinance No. 14-122 bans overnight parking from November through April and parking during snow events, and Minnesota Statutes Sec. 169.34 prohibits parking near hydrants, driveways, and crosswalks. Owners of buses, large trucks, or extra-long RVs should verify the rules with Woodbury Code Enforcement before parking at a residence.
Parking a vehicle over 26,000 pounds GVWR, a CDL-required vehicle, a box or flatbed truck over eight feet tall, or a large trailer in a residential zone when not actively in use violates Sec. 24-245. Storing recreational equipment longer than 24 feet outdoors violates Sec. 24-255. Both can lead to citations.
