Woodbury's zoning code sets driveway dimensions and surfacing standards: driveways must be at least 10 feet wide, no more than 30 feet at the property line, set back at least 5 feet, and surfaced (class 5 gravel for single-family, paved for higher-density zones). Vehicles must not block sidewalks or trails.
Woodbury regulates residential driveways through its zoning code. Under Sec. 24-237, all driveways must have a minimum width of ten feet, a maximum width of 30 feet at the property line, and a minimum five-foot setback to the property line. Surfacing requirements appear in Sec. 24-240: single-family residential driveways must be class 5 gravel or better, while R-4 (higher-density) zoned areas require concrete, pavers, or a plant-mixed bituminous surface, or better. These surfacing standards tie into parking rules elsewhere in the code, which require recreational equipment and similar items to be stored on concrete or blacktop rather than on grass or bare soil. Woodbury also advises that vehicles parked in driveways must not extend beyond the driveway into the street or obstruct a sidewalk or trail; a vehicle that hangs over the public walk or roadway can block pedestrians and snowplows. The winter parking ordinance reinforces this by keeping cars off the street overnight in the winter months. Homeowners planning a new driveway or an expansion should confirm width, setback, and surface requirements and any permit needs with Woodbury's Community Development or Engineering staff before construction.
Building a driveway narrower than 10 feet, wider than 30 feet at the property line, or without the required setback violates Sec. 24-237. Using an unapproved surface violates Sec. 24-240. Parking a vehicle so it overhangs and blocks a public sidewalk, trail, or street can also draw a code enforcement notice.
