Full Breakdown

In Haverford Township, the Board of Commissioners does not run preferential parking through a district map in the code itself. Section 175-37 says the affected areas are specified in Township resolutions as they are required, and Schedule XXIV (§ 175-99) lists the zones where only vehicles with appropriate permits can park. Those entries give the street, the side, the hours and days, and the limits. Allston Road, both sides, all hours, runs from Strathmore Road to Mill Road. Ashurst Road, both sides, is restricted 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, in the 700 block. Belmont Avenue is listed at 2701 and 2703.

The Haverford Township Police Department administers the program under § 175-33. It prepares the application forms, issues the permits and resident parking stickers, and keeps records of permits issued and fees paid. To apply, you present a current operator's license and motor vehicle registration card and pay the permit fee. Section 175-36 sets the application fee at $3, payable to the Police Department. The code defines "his automobile" as a passenger motor vehicle owned or leased by the applicant and actually in use by him, and the owner or lessee is the principal occupant of the residence.

Rental properties have an extra step in § 175-34C. The owner who intends to lease must appear in person at the Police Department and submit a copy of the lease and the current, approved housing license for the named tenants. The tenants must also appear at the police station and submit the make, model, color and license number of the car to receive the sticker. Section 175-34B provides for commercial vehicle stickers by resolution.

Under § 175-35 the permit and sticker are limited to the owner's or lessee's residence area and are nontransferable from person to person or from automobile to automobile. A replacement automobile needs a new permit and sticker, and the permit must be produced on demand by a Haverford Township police officer. Separately, § 175-34D lets volunteer fire fighters obtain no-fee permits for metered parking, two per fire fighter, expiring on the last day of December.

Violations & Fines

Sections 175-33 through 175-37 carry a maximum fine of $300 and up to 30 days of imprisonment under the schedule in § 175-75B. Parking in a Schedule XXIV zone without a valid sticker violates § 175-37.1. Fines are paid at the Haverford Township Police Department Records Division, 1010 Darby Road, Havertown, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who issues resident parking stickers in Haverford Township?
The Haverford Township Police Department issues them. Section 175-33 makes the Police Department responsible for preparing application forms, issuing permits and resident parking stickers, and keeping records of permits issued and fees paid. You apply there with a current operator's license and motor vehicle registration card.
How much does a sticker cost?
Section 175-36 sets the application fee for permits and resident parking stickers at $3, payable to the Police Department. Section 175-34A also refers to a permit fee, and the permits and stickers themselves are designated by resolution of the Board of Commissioners.
Can a tenant get a sticker in Haverford Township?
Yes, but the landlord must take part. Under § 175-34C the owner appears in person at the Police Department with the lease and the current approved housing license. The tenants then appear at the police station and submit the make, model, color and license number of the car.
Can I move my sticker to a new car?

Schedule XXIV (§ 175-99) lists them with the side, hours and limits. Examples include Allston Road from Strathmore Road to Mill Road at all hours and the 700 block of Ashurst Road from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. Section 175-37 says other areas are set by Township resolutions.
