Aiken County, SC Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Sec. 10 governs how residents can park, store, or live in a recreational vehicle or boat. In the RC, RM, RD, and OR residential districts, no more than one RV or boat may be parked or stored in any required front or side setback area, or within five feet of the rear lot line; keeping a second unit in those protected areas isn't allowed. The rule loosens for short stays: an RV or boat can be parked anywhere on the residential premises, setback or not, for up to 24 hours while it's actively being loaded or unloaded, and an RV can be used for temporary lodging up to seven days per year in every zoning district in the county, not just the four residential districts named above.

The ordinance also carves out a longer-term allowance for property owners actively building or renovating: an RV may be used for temporary lodging on a vacant lot while a primary residence is under construction, or during extensive home renovation, in any zoning district, for up to 12 months, but only if the owner holds a current, valid building permit for that work. That extended lodging arrangement also requires water and a septic or sewer connection to already be available on the parcel, and the RV itself must be set up within the lot's buildable area rather than in a setback.
