Florence County, SC Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Section 30-228 of the Florence County Zoning Ordinance, part of Article VI's supplemental parking and loading regulations, targets recreational vehicles and boats stored on residential lots in the unincorporated county. Any RV or boat longer than 17 feet is barred from sitting in a required front or side yard setback area, and cannot come within five feet of the rear property line, in any residential zoning district. The ordinance carves out two narrow exceptions: an oversized RV or boat may be parked anywhere on the lot, including a restricted setback, for up to 24 hours while it is actively being loaded or unloaded, and a recreational vehicle may be occupied for temporary lodging for up to seven days.

The section does not set a separate size threshold for RVs and boats of 17 feet or under, so those units are governed instead by the general accessory-use and setback standards for the district, and by the vision-clearance triangle rule in Section 30-245 if the vehicle sits near a corner lot. This provision is distinct from Section 30-229, the neighboring section that separately restricts parking and storage of non-residential commercial vehicles and construction equipment in the R-1, R-2 and R-3 districts; an RV or boat used purely for recreation is not swept into that commercial-vehicle rule.

The Florence County Planning Department, through the zoning administrator, enforces setback and storage violations on residential lots and can require an owner to relocate or remove a noncompliant recreational vehicle or boat.
