Yolo County Code section 8-2.1314 prohibits parking recreational vehicles (RVs, trailers, boats, ATVs) in any required front, side, or rear yard adjacent to a public street on residential properties in unincorporated areas, and bars using an RV as a dwelling without County approval.
Title 8 (Land Development and Zoning), Chapter 2, Article 13 of the Yolo County Code governs off-street parking. Section 8-2.1314 specifically regulates recreational vehicle and commercial vehicle parking on residential properties in any residential zone within the unincorporated County. The section broadly defines 'recreational vehicle' to include 'all operable towed vehicles and self-propelled vehicles, including trailers, tent trailers, tractor trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, trailers for towing recreational vehicles and equipment, boats, aircraft, self-propelled motor homes, all-terrain vehicles, dune buggies, racing vehicles, and any other self-propelled or towed vehicle over ten thousand (10,000) pounds gross vehicle weight but not used by the residents of the site on which the vehicle is parked for a commercial purpose.' RVs may not be parked within any required front, side, or rear yard adjacent to a public street, and may be parked elsewhere on site only if the area is paved consistent with section 8-2.1313. Use of an RV as a residential dwelling (temporary or permanent) requires a Planning Director or Planning Commission approval - typically only granted as a temporary dwelling during home construction.
A violation of section 8-2.1314 is an infraction punishable under California Government Code section 25132. Four or more violations by the same person within twelve months constitute a misdemeanor. Code Enforcement (Community Services Department, Planning Division) handles complaints.
