Yolo County regulates the parking and storage of recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers on residential property under the Zoning Code, principally Sec. 8-2.2514 (Parking of Recreational Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, and Recreational Equipment in Residential Zones) and Sec. 8-2.3210 (Recreational Vehicle Parking Permits). RVs may be parked on residential lots subject to surface, setback, and lot-size standards, and on-site RV occupancy is restricted to short-term guest stays absent a permit.
In unincorporated Yolo County, the Zoning Code governs how recreational vehicles, boats, utility trailers, and other recreational equipment may be parked on residential property. Sec. 8-2.2514 sets the operative rules in the R (residential) zones: equipment must be parked on an approved surface (the code generally calls for a concrete or other improved pad), kept behind the front-yard setback line, and may not block sidewalks, driveways, or required parking spaces. Sec. 8-2.3210 establishes a Recreational Vehicle Parking Permit for residents who need flexibility beyond the basic standard (for example, longer-term storage in a side yard or temporary occupancy of an RV by a guest). The standard parking-space dimension is at least 9 ft x 18 ft with 8'2'' vertical clearance (Sec. 8-2.1307). Year-round occupancy of an RV as a primary residence is not permitted on a standard single-family lot - RV occupancy is allowed for short-term guest stays and on the property for limited durations, and an RV may not substitute for a permitted dwelling unit unless the parcel is a permitted RV park (Title 8, Article 3).
Parking an RV, boat, or trailer in violation of Sec. 8-2.2514 (e.g., in the front-yard setback, on bare dirt, or blocking a sidewalk) is a zoning violation. Yolo County Code Enforcement issues a Notice of Violation and may follow up with administrative citations under Title 1. Occupying an RV as a residence without a permit or a permitted RV park designation can trigger additional code-enforcement action and removal orders.
