Lake Charles, LA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

1 of the Code of Ordinances, adopted in 2024, sets residential storage standards for boats separate from the general vehicle-parking rules in Section 23-6. As a general matter, boats stored on a city lot must be kept within a garage or a covered area. The code then carves out exceptions for boats not stored that way: the boat must be kept clean of trash and debris, it must be set on a boat trailer or a dry rack off the ground, and it is preferably covered with a boat cover.

The boat must also be kept in good working condition and cannot create an eyesore for the surrounding community due to visible deterioration or neglect in public view. Smaller boats may be stored directly on the ground, but only if they can be manually turned upside down to prevent rainwater from pooling and debris from collecting. 1.
