Mahwah Township regulates trailer storage and parking through Chapter 11, requiring specific setbacks from property lines and a permit process for storage trailers and temporary storage units placed on private property.
Under Chapter 11 of the Mahwah Code, trailers must be located at least 25 feet from all property lines. Construction, office, service or storage trailer applications must be submitted in writing to the Construction Official, with a decision in 10 business days. Temporary storage units (such as PODS) require a $10 permit from the Administrative Officer, issued within seven days of a complete application. Recreational trailers and similar equipment are also addressed under zoning accessory use provisions in Chapter 24.
Storing a trailer closer than 25 feet to a lot line, or installing a temporary storage unit without obtaining the required permit, can trigger zoning violations and code-enforcement action.
