Mecklenburg County UDO limits RV and boat storage on residential lots. Charlotte UDO 12.505 allows one RV or boat in a side or rear yard on residential lots, fully screened. Front yard storage is prohibited. HOAs commonly ban visible RV storage entirely.
Charlotte Unified Development Ordinance Section 12.505 allows one recreational vehicle, boat, or trailer per residential lot, stored in the side or rear yard and screened from street view. RVs cannot be used as permanent dwellings. Occupancy for visitors is limited to 14 days per calendar year. RVs must be owned by the resident and maintain current registration. In unincorporated Mecklenburg, the County zoning ordinance applies similar side/rear-yard rules with 5 ft setback from property lines. Most HOAs in Ballantyne, Huntersville, and Waxhaw-area developments prohibit visible RV storage entirely through CC and Rs.
Zoning violation: warning then 100 dollars per day. Using RV as dwelling: 500 dollars plus abatement order.
