National City, CA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 11.32.140 in Chapter 11.32 (Stopping, Standing and Parking) is the core list of places where a vehicle cannot stop, stand or park in National City. Its first group carries no sign requirement: within fifteen feet of a fire hydrant, within fifteen feet of the driveway entrance to a fire station, and within twenty feet of the vehicle approach side of any marked or unmarked crosswalk, or within fifteen feet of any crosswalk where a curb extension is present.

The second group applies where the Director of Public Works or designee signs or marks the place: a designated no parking zone shown by signs or red curb markings; any place where the City Engineer determines, on the basis of an engineering study, that restricting or prohibiting parking is necessary to enhance safety; within fifty feet of an intersection marked with a sign prohibiting any vehicle whose height with or without a load exceeds six feet, unless a City Council resolution sets a different distance; and any location where parking is restricted or prohibited between hours designated by City Council resolution. Curb colors are defined in § 11.32.190. Red means no stopping, standing or parking at any time, except that a bus can stop in a red zone marked as a bus zone. Yellow means no stopping, standing or parking between seven a.m. and six p.m. except Sundays and holidays, other than loading passengers or materials. White allows passenger loading only. Green sets a fifteen or thirty minute limit as marked. Blue is reserved for disabled persons. On one-way streets, § 11.32.090 allows parking within eighteen inches of the left-hand curb facing the direction of traffic unless signs prohibit it. Section 11.32.130 requires wheels to be turned against the curb for a vehicle left unattended on a grade exceeding three percent.
