Oyster Bay, NY Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Town Code Article III sets the basic rules for parking on any street in the Town outside the incorporated villages. Section 233-162 makes it unlawful to park at any location the Town has designated a no-parking zone, but only where that location is properly sign posted, meaning the ban is not enforceable without a posted sign. Section 233-164 extends the same signage requirement to limited parking zones: overstaying the posted time limit in a signed zone is a separate violation from parking there in the first place.

Section 233-64 governs how a legally parked car must sit on the street: except where the code otherwise expressly provides, every vehicle parking on a Town street must park parallel to the curb or gutter, with both front and rear wheels no more than six inches from it, so a car angled into the roadway or parked far from the curb is out of compliance even without a posted sign. Where the pavement or curb is marked or painted, or signs indicate specific parking spaces, § 233-64 also requires parking within the marked space and not otherwise, which is how the Town enforces spacing in metered or striped areas.
