On-street parking in Port St. Lucie is governed by Chapter 72 of the Code of Ordinances (Stopping, Standing, and Parking), which adopts the Florida Vehicle Code parking prohibitions and adds local front-yard rules. Vehicles may not be parked in the wide side of a residential front yard or on a public right-of-way to display the vehicle for sale.
Section 72.01 of the City Code mirrors Florida Statutes 316.1945 and bars stopping, standing, or parking on sidewalks, in intersections, on crosswalks, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk, and at other listed locations. Subsection 72.01(h) prohibits parking on the front yard of an improved residential site except in an area specifically designed and constructed (an impervious or semi-impervious surface clearly defining the parking area), and parking is absolutely prohibited in the wide side of the front yard (the portion forward of the front corners of the house on the larger-lawn side of the driveway). Subsection 72.01(i) bars parking on any public right-of-way or unimproved property to display a vehicle for sale, to advertise, or to abandon it for more than 24 hours. Enforcement is handled by the Port St. Lucie Police Department and Neighborhood Services Code Compliance; vehicles left on a public right-of-way more than 36 hours are deemed abandoned under Chapter 90.
Under Section 72.99, most parking violations carry a $25 fine plus a $10 school-crossing-guard surcharge; illegal use of a handicapped space is $250. Vehicles parked or left unattended on a public right-of-way more than 36 hours may be towed at the owner's expense as abandoned vehicles under Section 90.01.
