Port St. Lucie, FL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 72.09 of the Port St. Lucie Code of Ordinances splits curb loading into two categories. In a marked passenger curb loading zone, no one may stop, stand, or park except to load or unload passengers, and that stop cannot run past five minutes while the zone's posted hours are in effect. In a marked freight curb loading zone, a driver may stop only to load, unload, deliver, or pick up materials, and the section caps that stop at 30 minutes. A driver may still make a brief passenger stop in a freight zone, but only if the stop does not block a delivery vehicle that is waiting to enter or already using the zone.

Enforcement runs through the police department: Section 72.20 gives the chief of police and designated representatives authority to issue notices of violation for any Chapter 72 offense, and Section 72.21 requires the officer to conspicuously affix a written notice to an illegally parked vehicle. If a vehicle creates a traffic hazard or sits in a restricted zone in violation of Section 72.07, Section 72.22 lets police have it towed to the nearest garage at the owner's cost, with the towing bill becoming a lien against the vehicle.

Section 72.99 sets the fine schedule. Loading zone violations fall under the catch-all $25.00 parking fine (handicapped-parking violations are billed separately at $250.00, and Section 72.03 violations carry an escalating $100 to $250 schedule). Every parking ticket, including a loading zone citation, also carries a $10.00 surcharge that the Clerk of the Circuit Court deposits into the city's School Crossing Guard Trust Fund to fund crossing guards under Florida Statutes 316.660(3) and 318.21(11).
