Ascension Parish, LA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Ascension Parish adopts the traffic provisions of Title 32 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes by reference for general rules of the road under § 22-1, but the parish creates its own no-parking zones on subdivision and parish-maintained streets through a petition process set out at § 22-10(c). Residents who want on-street parking prohibited or restricted on their block must gather a petition signed by seventy-five percent of residents living on that street. Once collected, the petition goes to the councilman or councilwoman representing that district; only if the district's councilmember approves does the request move to the parish's transportation committee agenda for consideration and eventual installation of signage.

The same section sets a parallel process for adding three-way and four-way stop signs, which requires the parish transportation engineer to run a traffic volume and crash-data analysis against MUTCD warrants before any councilmember recommendation, and for reducing posted speed limits on a subdivision street, which also needs a 75-percent petition plus a DPW speed study confirming the requested limit is within 10 mph of the measured 85th-percentile speed. Because no-parking designation on a parish street runs through elected district representation rather than an administrative permit, there is no fee schedule or standalone application form in the code: the petition itself, and the councilmember's and transportation committee's sign-off, are the entire approval mechanism.
