The property-maintenance side of a garage sale is about appearance and cleanup. Under Sec. 9-2(b), leaving trash, discarded furniture, or scattered merchandise in the yard or at the curb after a sale is a public nuisance. Residents may post no more than two yard-sale signs, only on their own property; signs on trees, poles, medians, or roadsides are removed and discarded by Community Enhancement and Code Compliance officers, who work every weekend. Tables, racks, unsold goods, and signs should come down when the sale ends. A property that repeatedly displays sale clutter can face escalating nuisance enforcement and abatement.
