Sunrise, FL Property Maintenance: Vacant Lot Maintenance (2026)

Under Sec. 9-31(a), a vacant lot or parcel within 300 feet of a developed property may not have grass or weed growth exceeding six inches, while vacant land at least 300 feet from any developed parcel may go up to twelve inches. All vacant land must be kept free of refuse and debris. Sec. 9-2 adds that untended overgrowth, trash, stagnant water, and illegal dumping on a lot are public nuisances. When an owner fails to comply, Sec. 9-33 lets the city give ten days' notice, then mow or clear the lot and record a lien for its actual costs, collected as a non-ad valorem assessment on the property tax bill.
