Sunrise has no ordinance governing holiday or seasonal decorations. Purely ornamental displays carry no advertising message, so they fall outside the sign code. A seasonal display bearing words or symbols is treated as a noncommercial sign โ up to 8 sq. ft. on residential property, no permit.
Sunrise's Land Development Code (ch. 16) does not regulate holiday lights, wreaths, inflatables, or seasonal decorations as such. A "sign" under Sec. 16-247 requires wording, a logo, an insignia, or a symbol used for advertising or display, so purely ornamental decorations are not covered. If a seasonal display carries a message, it is a temporary noncommercial sign: up to 8 sq. ft. in residential districts, displayed up to 90 days, under 6 ft. tall, and at least 10 ft. from the right-of-way (Sec. 16-253). Placement in the public right-of-way, on medians, or attached to poles and trees remains prohibited (Sec. 16-248). HOA and community-association covenants, common in Sunrise, often add their own timing and display limits.
There are no city penalties for ordinary holiday decorations. A message-bearing sign left past 90 days, or placed in the right-of-way, is abated as a public nuisance under Chapter 9 and removed. HOA rules are enforced privately.
