Mansfield prohibits accumulations of trash, junk, abandoned vehicles, overgrown weeds, and dilapidated structures. Violations are enforced through property maintenance and nuisance ordinances.
The City of Mansfield enforces property maintenance standards designed to prevent blight, protect neighborhood property values, and address public health and safety hazards. Prohibited conditions typically include accumulations of junk, trash, scrap materials, or debris in yards; weeds and grass taller than 12 inches on unimproved or residential property; abandoned, wrecked, or inoperable vehicles stored in public view; dilapidated or unsecured buildings; accumulated tires or containers holding stagnant water; and exterior surfaces in severe disrepair such as peeling paint, missing siding, or damaged roofing. Mansfield Code Compliance investigates complaints and inspects properties for violations. The typical process begins with a notice of violation providing a compliance window (commonly 7 to 14 days) to correct the condition. If the owner fails to comply, the city can issue a municipal citation, perform abatement at the owners expense, and file a lien against the property to recover costs. Dangerous structures may be subject to the building standards commission process under Texas Local Government Code Chapter 214. To report blight, call Mansfield Code Compliance at 817-276-4200.
