Safety Harbor's Code Compliance enforces property maintenance standards under Chapter 5, including limits on weeds, debris, inoperative vehicles, and other conditions that constitute a public nuisance.
Chapter 5 Article II of the Safety Harbor Code addresses building and premises maintenance, while Chapter 15 covers offenses including nuisances. Weed or plant growth exceeding 12 inches in height within 75 feet of improved property or 25 feet of any street can be declared a public nuisance. Only one inoperative vehicle is permitted per property and only when stored in a carport, garage, or fully covered with a car cover and neatly maintained. Code Officers issue a courtesy notice with typically 10 days to comply, followed by a Notice of Violation referring the case to the Code Enforcement Board if uncorrected.
Continuing violations may result in liens up to $250 per day, or $500 per day for repeat violations, recorded against the property under F.S. Chapter 162.
