Simi Valley residents must store trash, recycling, and green waste bins in side yards, rear yards, or garages when not set out for collection. Bins may be placed at the curb no earlier than 5 PM the evening before collection and must be retrieved by midnight on collection day. Bins must be placed with lids closed and handles facing the street, at least 3 feet from vehicles, mailboxes, and other bins. Overflowing bins or loose trash next to bins is prohibited. The city's waste hauler provides standard-sized bins; additional or larger bins may be requested for a fee. Bins visible from the street on non-collection days may result in Code Enforcement notices.
Bins left at the curb beyond midnight on collection day or visible from the street on non-collection days result in Code Enforcement notices. Fines start at $50 for first offense. Overflowing bins that create litter are a separate violation. Repeat offenders may receive escalating fines.
