Vehicles parked on Simi Valley city streets must be moved every 72 hours or the Police Department may cite or tow them under California Vehicle Code Section 22651(k) as authorized by local ordinance.
The City of Simi Valley enforces the standard California 72-hour rule on public streets. Vehicles left parked or standing in the same location on a city street for 72 or more consecutive hours are subject to removal under California Vehicle Code Section 22651(k), which authorizes peace officers and authorized parking-enforcement employees to remove such vehicles when a local ordinance authorizes the removal. To report a vehicle that has not moved in 72 hours, residents are directed by the City of Simi Valley to call the Police Department Parking Hotline at (805) 583-6921. Additional restrictions apply to RVs and other oversized vehicles, which under SVMC Section 4-9.402 cannot be parked on city streets for more than 48 hours even when used in connection with a registered Simi Valley residence.
A warning notice may be left and the tires marked; if the vehicle has not moved after 72 hours, it may be cited and towed at the owner's expense pursuant to CVC 22651(k).
