Full Breakdown
California Business & Professions Code 25620 makes it an infraction to possess an open alcoholic beverage container in a public place. Vehicle Code 23223 separately bans open containers in vehicles. Tuolumne County Code Title 9 reinforces the public places ban for parks, sidewalks, and county-owned property. Twain Harte exceptions exist for licensed special events such as the Stanislaus Forest beer festivals, where a temporary ABC permit defines a controlled boundary. Twain Harte Lake is private; alcohol there follows association rules. Drinking on national forest land at developed campsites is generally allowed unless a campground host posts otherwise.
Violations & Fines
Open containers on county streets, parks, or in vehicles trigger infractions, fines, and possible DUI investigation if the driver is involved.
