Full Breakdown

The Park Ordinance prohibits a person from entering, being, or remaining in any municipal park while possessing, transporting, buying, selling, or consuming marijuana or other controlled substances, and separately bars possessing pipes or other smoking instruments in a park. A companion section makes it unlawful to enter or remain in a park while under the influence of marijuana or another drug, even one prescribed by a physician. The restriction is specific to city parks rather than a citywide public-consumption ban; South Gate's general smoking ordinance separately covers marijuana smoke in other public places by definition, but its operative prohibition text could not be verified in the source file.

Violations & Fines

Possessing, consuming, or being under the influence of marijuana in a South Gate park is enforceable under the Park Ordinance's penalty section, which can include citation and ejection from the park.
