Forsyth County, GA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Forsyth County Code of Ordinances section 54-8, in Chapter 54's Article II governing park hours, vehicles and mobility, restricts non-motorized bicycles, scooters, skateboards and roller blades to the areas of a county park or recreation facility that are designated for that activity. Riding a skateboard, scooter or bicycle, or wearing roller blades, outside the marked or posted areas violates this section, the same as driving a vehicle off a park's designated roadway would violate the neighboring section, 54-7. The code layers on an age-based helmet mandate: no person under 16 may operate or ride as a passenger on a bicycle or skateboard within a county park or recreational facility unless wearing a protective helmet that meets or exceeds the impact standards Georgia law sets for protective helmets.

The rule sits alongside the chapter's broader restrictions on drones, ATVs and other motorized transport devices, and it is enforced the same way as the rest of Chapter 54: by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the Code Compliance Department, or Forsyth County Park Rangers, per section 54-3, any of whom may issue a citation, a warning, or order the rider to leave the facility. Because the definition of park or recreation facility in section 54-1 covers all Forsyth County parks, trails and recreation buildings, the designated-area and helmet rules follow every county-owned recreation site, not just a single flagship park.
