Port St. Lucie, FL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Sec. 60 lists skateboards together with bicycles, scooters, self-balancing transporters, and rollerblades as permitted uses within city parks, but carves out athletic fields, courts, and playgrounds, plus any other area the city, the director, or a designee posts as off-limits to that equipment. The section also imposes a general safe-riding duty, stating that all persons shall ride a bicycle and the like in a safe manner, which applies to skateboarders under the section's combined heading. A separate clause bars leaving a bicycle anywhere other than a provided rack when rack space is available, extending the tidiness expectation to all wheeled equipment covered by the section.

The section draws a hard line at motorized equipment: motorized bicycles and other motorized vehicles, aside from motorized wheelchairs for people with disabilities, are prohibited in parks, on boardwalks, sidewalks, athletic fields, courts, playgrounds, and any other area the city designates, so an electric skateboard or e-scooter falls outside the permitted category even where non-motorized boards are allowed. The 2022 rewrite, Ord. No. 22-82, Sec. 2, retitled the section from simply Bicycles to its current, broader heading to make clear it governs skateboards and rollerblades as well.

Because Sec. 60 sits among the Article III traffic-in-parks rules, the city treats these devices as park traffic subject to the same director-designated closures used for vehicles.
