Sparks, NV Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Sparks Municipal Code Chapter 10.74 regulates skateboards and roller skates throughout the city. Under Section 10.74.020, no one may ride a skateboard on a public street or alley if a sidewalk runs alongside it; where no sidewalk exists, riders must stay as far right as possible and travel with traffic. Section 10.74.070 bans skateboarding altogether within the city's defined "business district," bounded by the C Street, 15th Street, Nugget Avenue and Pyramid Way rights-of-way under Section 10.74.010(A). Section 10.74.050 bars skateboarding on the grounds of Sparks City Hall, the Sparks Municipal Court, or any city-owned parking structure, and separately prohibits skateboarding wherever the city or another government posts a sign restricting it.

Section 10.74.060 requires every skateboarder to yield right-of-way to pedestrians. Private businesses can extend the ban to their own property: Section 10.74.040 lets an owner post a "No Skateboarding" sign that also cites "SMC 10.74.040," and once posted, skateboarding on that property becomes a code violation. Section 10.74.080 forbids skateboarding on or against city tables, benches, tennis courts, pools or other structures that could be damaged, and Section 10.74.090 bans setting up ramps or jumps on any city-owned parking lot or park. None of these sections carries its own fine schedule, so violations default to the citywide misdemeanor penalty in Section 1.12.010, with each day of a continuing violation charged as a separate offense.
