Twin Falls County, ID Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Chapter 2 of Title 6 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic), "Skateboards, Roller Skates, And In-Line Skates," defines its terms in § 6-2-1: roller and in-line skates are foot-worn wheeled devices propelled by human power, and a skateboard is any wheeled platform designed for standing on and propelled by human power. Section 6-2-2 then bars skating or skateboarding on any street, highway, roadway, or public thoroughfare in the county, unless the area has been set aside with signage and barricades at the Sheriff's direction. The restriction traces to Ordinance 10 from May 1967, one of the older provisions in the code, carried forward through the 1996 recompilation without substantive change.

Because the ban covers streets, highways, roadways, and public thoroughfares generally rather than naming a business district, it functions countywide on public rights-of-way, and the Sheriff's Office is the agency with authority to designate an exception area rather than the planning and zoning department. Section 6-2-3 sets the penalty by cross-reference to the county's general penalty section, § 1-4-1, which caps misdemeanor fines at $300 and jail time at six months for county code violations generally.
