Hanford, CA Public Health Rules: Rodent Control (2026)

Hanford Municipal Code § 15.02.040(A)(2) adds Appendix F, Rodentproofing, to the California Building Code, Part 2, as adopted by the city; Appendix F sets construction requirements, chiefly around raised floors and crawl-space openings, meant to keep rodents from getting under a structure. The city explains why in Express Finding No. 7 (Hanford Municipal Code § 15.02.090(G)): the Central Valley's long, hot, dry days push rodents toward cool, shaded nesting spots, and Hanford's raised-floor homes with vented crawl spaces are exactly that kind of spot, so those openings had to be secured against entry.

The Building Division enforces Appendix F through the same plan-check and inspection process used for the rest of Chapter 15.02, since the appendix is folded into the adopted Building Code rather than issued as a stand-alone health ordinance. Outside the building code, Hanford's zoning performance standards reach the same rodent problem from the waste-storage side: Hanford Municipal Code § 17.50.030 requires that waste materials associated with any use that are edible by, or otherwise attractive to, rodents or insects be stored in closed containers, a duty that applies in every zoning district citywide, independent of the construction-side Appendix F requirement.

Both the rodentproofing addition and the rest of Chapter 15.02 were most recently reauthorized alongside the chapter by Ordinance 25-12, adopted December 16, 2025.
