Mosinee, WI Public Health Rules: Rodent Control (2026)

Sec. 42-1381, adopted by Ord. No. 97-10 on September 8, 1997 as part of the city's exterior property maintenance division, imposes a flat duty on every premises in Mosinee: stay free from insect, rodent and other pest infestation. The section does not distinguish owner-occupied homes from rentals, commercial buildings or vacant lots, so the obligation runs with whoever controls the property. When insects, rodents or other pests are found, the code requires them to be promptly exterminated or removed, and specifies the method used cannot be injurious to human health, ruling out treatments that would create a separate hazard.

After the pests are gone, the section adds a forward-looking duty: proper precautions must be taken to prevent reinfestation, which ties the rodent-control rule to the building's physical condition addressed elsewhere in the same division, since Sec. 42-1379's requirement that foundations be kept rodentproof and that basement hatchways and window sashes fit tightly is the maintenance work that actually keeps a structure from becoming reinfested. The building inspector enforces both sections together, and an inspection that turns up an infestation is handled through the same written correction order process as any other exterior or interior maintenance violation, with an appeal available to the board of public works before any city abatement or citation follows.
