Westland, MI Public Health Rules: Rodent Control (2026)

Section 22-41 of Westland's Blighted and Dangerous Buildings division lists a building, structure, or grounds that becomes a harborage for rats, mice, or other vermin and pests, likely to spread infestation to the surrounding neighborhood, as one of twelve conditions that make a building 'blighted and dangerous.' Once a property is designated blighted and dangerous under this division, it is treated as a public nuisance under section 22-42, letting the city pursue abatement. The rule was adopted by Ordinance No. 191-B-11 in 2005 to protect health, safety, and property values city-wide; it sits apart from the separate blight-factor rules in article XIII that target junk storage and unsecured vacant buildings.
