Wyoming, MI Public Health Rules: Rodent Control (2026)

Wyoming's Code of Ordinances Article V of Chapter 30 (Environment) targets rat control on private property. Section 30-162 requires anyone in control of rubbish, boxes, barrels, lumber, scrap metal, car bodies or similar materials that create a rat harborage to remove them or store them so no harborage exists; stacked materials like lumber, boxes and barrels must sit on platforms raised at least 15 inches above the ground. Section 30-163 bars leaving out anything that could serve as rat food: waste that could feed rats must go in a ratproof container built of concrete or metal, or lined to be impervious to rats, with tight-fitting doors or covers, and bird feed must be placed on raised platforms or otherwise made inaccessible to rats.

Section 30-164 puts the extermination duty on the property owner: whenever rat holes, burrows or other infestation evidence turns up on a lot or in a building, the owner must exterminate the rats, then fill every hole or burrow with earth, ashes or other suitable material within ten days of the extermination. Section 30-165 requires owners to keep buildings reasonably ratproof, replace broken basement windows, and cover basement window openings with hardware cloth (wire screening with gaps no larger than three-eighths of an inch) where needed.

Sheds, barns, coops and similar outbuildings must be ratproofed, raised at least 15 inches off the ground, given a proper concrete foundation, or torn down if they harbor rats. 105) and remain codified unchanged in the current ordinance.
