Longmont, CO Public Health Rules: Syringe Disposal (2026)

Infectious waste means any material incidental to, or resulting from, the operation of any hospital, medical clinic, physician's office, veterinary clinic, or residential sickroom, as defined by federal, state and local statutes, rules and regulations. The term "infectious waste" also includes needles and syringes resulting from home use.

Innovation is considered an alternative to conventional waste services that diverts a minimum of 50 percent of the total waste stream from the landfill through reuse or repurposing of materials in an environmentally and socially responsible manner and that can be documented for city staff to evaluate.

Landfill shall mean an area of land or excavation licensed by state and/or county authorities, as applicable, to accept waste for permanent disposal.

Licensed hauler shall mean a company that has a current private refuse license per chapter 6.101.

Organics collection services means any services provided by the city or a licensed hauler specifically to collect organic materials.

Organic materials means organic matter such as grass, leaves, branches, food waste and any materials accepted for composting by regional organics collection facilities.
