Summary
Corpus Christi requires every short-term rental, any home rented for fewer than 30 consecutive days, to hold a city permit before it advertises or books guests. Owners register through the MUNIRevs portal, pay an annual fee, and self-certify insurance and annual fire-extinguisher inspections.
A sworn, self-certification that the owner of the STR has met and will continue to comply with the standards and other requirements including but not limited to: maintenance of insurance coverage and annual inspections of required fire extinguishers in compliance with the city's current fire code.
Full Breakdown
The program, adopted June 28, 2022 as an amendment to the Unified Development Code, is run by Development Services. Type 1 (owner/operator-occupied) STRs are permitted citywide except in single-family districts on Padre and Mustang Island; Type 2 (non-owner-occupied) STRs are capped at 15% of a block face, awarded first-come, first-served. The permit costs $250 per year (2023 onward) and must be renewed each January. Applications require a list of owners, operators, and agents, a floor-plan sketch showing sleeping areas, evacuation routes, and fire-extinguisher locations, a 24-hour contact, and a sworn self-certification of insurance and annual fire-extinguisher inspection. STRs also owe the city's 9% hotel occupancy tax. Long-term leases are not covered.
Violations & Fines
Operating an unregistered short-term rental violates the ordinance. Development Services and Code Enforcement pursue unpermitted operators, and a permit can be denied or revoked for false certification or noncompliance with the safety and insurance standards.
