Houston County, GA Right to Farm: Agricultural Zoning Protection (2026)

1 of the Comprehensive Land Development Regulations establishes the R-AG Agricultural Residential District. 1 is to protect rural areas against the blight and depreciation that can result from premature development, to encourage coordinated and orderly rural development, and to protect land adjoining rural roads from strip development that causes traffic congestion and hazards; the district applies only in the unincorporated portions of the county, not inside Perry, Warner Robins, or the county's other cities. 2(4) is the county's operative agricultural-use protection: it permits agricultural crops, including the raising of livestock and poultry, in the R-AG district, provided all animals and fowl other than household pets are kept in a structure, pen, or corral, and provided no structure housing livestock or poultry, and no manure, odor, or dust-producing storage, sits within 50 feet of any property line.

3(1) and must sit at least 100 feet from any property line. 2(3), so long as it sits at least 10 feet from any property line, is enclosed by a wall or fence at least 4 feet high, and has Houston County Health Department approval.
