Baton Rouge Ordinance 16370 (effective August 2023) requires all short-term rental operators to carry commercial general liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 and name the City-Parish as an additional insured before a permit is issued.
Under Ordinance 16370, codified in the City-Parish Code of Ordinances (Title 8), every STR operator must obtain a $100 annual permit from the Permits and Inspections Division. Proof of a commercial general liability insurance policy with minimum limits of $1,000,000 β naming the City-Parish as additional insured β must accompany each permit application. The ordinance defines STRs as rentals of fewer than 30 consecutive days. Permit numbers must appear in all listing advertisements. Lodging taxes of 15.9% must be collected and remitted.
Operating without a valid permit carries fines up to $500 per day. Three adjudicated violations within one year result in automatic permit revocation.
