Lorain County imposes no STR insurance rule, but the City of Lorain does: an applicant for a short-term-rental Housing License must submit proof of property insurance as part of the application.
Insurance requirements are set by the city. Lorain Cod. Ord. 1537.06 lists the standard license-application items (owner and agent contact, property address, unit description) and then adds a specific short-term-rental requirement: proof of property insurance. This document must accompany the Housing License application before the Chief Building Official issues the license, alongside the Conditional Use Permit. The code does not specify a minimum coverage dollar amount, so hosts should confirm acceptable limits with the Building, Housing and Planning Department. Other Lorain County cities may set their own insurance terms; check your municipality.
An incomplete application lacking proof of insurance will not yield a Housing License, and operating without a license is a first-degree misdemeanor under Cod. Ord. 1537.99.
