The Woodlands Township requires a Short-Term Rental (STR) Facility Application through Covenant Administration for rentals under 30 days. STRs must comply with deed restrictions and covenants. As of 2024, approximately 35β40 additional STRs were under review.
The Woodlands Township established STR regulations in 2019 through its Development Standards Committee. Property owners who rent their homes for periods under 30 days must apply for an STR permit through the Covenant Administration Department. The application is called the Short-Term Rental Facility Application. Enforcement is through breach of contract under the covenants, not municipal fines. The Township had revoked two STR permits as of 2024 for non-compliance. As of mid-2024, about 545 STRs operated in South Montgomery County. The Township is exploring third-party monitoring services.
