Atlanta Code Ch. 30, Art. VIII requires a distinct STR license for each dwelling unit rented for fewer than 30 consecutive days. Hosts must submit owner information, a local 24/7 contact, proof of insurance, a safety self-certification covering smoke and CO alarms, and either proof of ownership or landlord permission. The current license fee is $150 per unit per year. The license number must appear in every online listing on every platform. Atlanta also requires payment of the 8% hotel-motel tax and state sales tax on all stays. Platforms such as Airbnb collect some of these taxes on behalf of hosts, but the host remains ultimately responsible.
Operating without a license is a civil penalty of up to $500 per day. Advertising without a license number is a separate violation. Tax non-payment is enforced by the Department of Finance.
