The LA County STR Ordinance requires all hosts in unincorporated areas to obtain a Sidewalk Vending Registration Certificate from the Treasurer and Tax Collector (TTC). Operators must submit a Transient Occupancy Tax Registration Application within 30 days of commencing business. Annual registration with the TTC costs $914. The host must be the property owner or authorized by the owner, reside at the dwelling at least nine months per year, maintain liability insurance of at least $1 million, and provide local contact information for a person available within 30 minutes. Hosts must post the registration number on all listing platforms. Online hosting platforms are prohibited from listing unregistered properties. Applications are processed through the TTC office.
Operating without registration: fines of $1,000 first offense, $2,000 second, $5,000 third. Platforms listing unregistered properties face separate penalties. False information on registration is a misdemeanor.
